citizen advocacy board retreat

Chatham Savannah Citizen Advocacy Board Retreat 2007 was a time of listening and learning...

We learned the history of discrimination and dehumanization of people who have disabilities.

We learned Jafari Grant's story. As he heard his life story told, a powerful story of resilience, Jafari's face moved from pain to pride. It moved all of us, and helped us see our own lives in perspective... and see how much we had to learn from Jafari.

Later, we looked at a drawing of a beautiful picture of a world where all kinds of people come together at Forsyth Park by the fountain. People picnicked, listened to live music, danced and laughed. In this beautiful drawing, no one was excluded, and no one felt excluded.

Next,  board members thought about the work we would individually commit to, and wrote that down on post its, which we stuck onto the drawing. Little steps toward a more beautiful world.
